Congratulations to the 8 WINNERS of ESF West Island School’s Hong Kong Shark Foundation 香港護鯊會 “Shark Week 2022 – Shark
Art
Competition”. Eight brilliant students – ranging from Year 7s to Year 10s – participated in this fun competition, but FIRST PLACE
went to Year 8 student Ariane Crane for her art titled “What if it were you, what would you do now?”Well done Ariane!

Ariane wrote this messsge behind her art: ‘Through this particular art piece, I am expressing the death scene of sharks when they are left to die after being robbed of their fins. I wish to convey the importance of stopping shark finning by making the audience feel empathetic and understanding towards the situation through expressing a human left to die without one’s limbs as a metaphor. I hope that in doing this, more people will be inspired to take action to stop this problem.”

Huge THANK YOU also to the event organisers IB Shark Ambassadors Alyssa Mallorca, Michelle Zhou, and Arahant Doss for giving students an opportunity to use their creativity and to spread awareness on HKSF’s cause. And to all the winners for utilising metaphors and rhetorics in order to communicate a thought-provoking message. What an impact!

We hope your art will help raise awareness about the plight of sharks and help HKSF to plant more seeds of change!
