HKSF’s Education Director Andrea Richey took 9 ICHK: International College Hong Kong Hong Lok Yuen & Secondary students for a special field trip this week to the dried seafood and shark fin shops of 西營盤 Sai Ying Pun. Students visited over 30 shops and learned first hand how buying shark fins is NOT illegal here and how a wide variety is sold in abundance for as much as HKD 6862 per caty (600 grams). Students quickly understood why HK is the biggest hub for shark fin trading in the world. Thank you to teacher Jon Rees and Erin for taking the time and initiative to give the students a real-world experience that I’m sure they will never forget.
